Getting Here

Rothesay is situated on the Isle of Bute, and is accessible by ferry. There are two ferry crossings: Weymss Bay to Rothesay and Colintraive to Rubodach which is on the Isle of Bute. Weymss Bay is about an hour from Glasgow , whereas Colintraive is about two hours. For ferry timetables please see Calmac website.

Colintraive ferry is a 4min ferry where you can stay in your car during the journey.

Wemyss Bay ferry is a 35min ferry journey.

  • By Car to Wemyss Ferry Terminal: from Glasgow follow the M8 towards Greenock. After Port Glasgow follow the A78 to Weymss Bay which is approximately one hour.
  • By car to Colintraive Ferry Terminal: from Glasgow take the M8 towards Dumbarton. Then follow the A82 to Tarbet then onto the A83 towards Argyll and Bute. Before Cairndow take the A886 towards Dunoon then follow signs for Colintraive.
  • By train: Train links are available to and from the ferry crossing from Glasgow Central (45mins) and Paisley Gilmore Street to Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminal.
  • By Bus: Bus services are also available from  Glasgow, Greenock, Gourock and Largs.
